Becoming a Night Owl

It’s 4:40 am and I’m as chipper as a squirrel when it finds a new acorn to add to it’s stash. Previously, I talked to y’all about my new found sleeping habits. Well, it’s been about 3 weeks since I had a “real” nights rest, except for last night, some how I managed to fall to sleep at 12, and wake up at 1 in the afternoon, the latest I’ve ever slept in... in my life! For the past 3 weeks I have been living off of 2-4 hours of sleep, killer migraines, and my skin might be turning a tad grey (a side effect which I am convinced I have, but no one else sees it.) Last nights 13 hour record-breaking deep sleep got me excited! I knew I was back to normal, and I could presume my old sleep schedule, no problem.

I’ve always been one to fall to sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Never having to count sheep or daydream with my eyelids closed. Lately. this is not the case. I find myself tossing and turning until the wee hours in the morning, when I finally fall to sleep, simply out of exhaustion of trying to fall to sleep. I’ve tried everything, the sheep, the day dreaming, a warm glass of milk right before I climb into bed, lighting rose scented candles, benadryl, a soothing bath at night, reading a book... The list goes on and on. I believe these are just rumors that people say help them sleep, I can’t imagine drinking a warm glass of milk, which, by the way, seems like soiled milk to me, but I was desperate and willing to try anything.

One pro that has come out of this, is that it’s easy to do school work in the middle of the night, no noise is around to bother you, no one is walking in and out pestering you, it’s quite a relaxing state of mind. This is why I’ve turned to “I can’t sleep to save my life” time into school time. Getting that extra time to study really helps keep me ahead of my planned track. One con? I think my teachers would think I was insane if I submitted my work at 3:00 AM. Who knows... Maybe it’s common?

Anyways, I just wanted to write this quick blog update to let you all know how I’m doing, and ask if you have have any uncommon tips to falling to sleep, and staying asleep all night. (I’ve tried all the common ones!) Let me know in the comments, and I’ll blog to you guys later.

Bbyyyyeeee (insert wave here),

Blair, you sound like me. I'm such a night owl & can't get myself out of this bad habit. My mom told me about this vitamin called "Melotonin" that promotes sleep naturally, & to her my sisters and everyone else, its worked at giving them a good nights sleep. Its not a sleeping pill, (although thats what it is for) it just makes your body sleepy, naturally :p. You take one pill thirty minutes before bedtime. You can pick them up at walmart in the vitamin section, if you're interested. It really works! Its worth a try!

Hi Blair,

I really like all your blogs and Vlogs and tutorials and one thing that really helps me go to sleep is to listen to my favorite music before I go to bed!! Relaxing music works but I find that just by closing my eyes and listening to a song that had a lot of good memories to it helps me relax and fall asleep!! Anyway good luck on sleeping and can't wait to see more videos and posts!!!

This is totally gonna sound creeper-ish, but I put either your's or your sister's video on autoplay. Ya'll both have soothing voices, to me at least, and then I turn over so I don't watch the videos, I just listen.

If you're super stressed out that's probably why you can't sleep. Or if you can't just get your mind to be quiet, which is understandable with all that goes on in your life. I would try keeping a diary that isn't electronic... Not sure if you already do, but hand writing will keep you away from technology which is always good for sleep. Also I know that if you are in bed for more than about half an hour trying to get to sleep that you should get out of bed. Lying down is a way for your body to relax and it takes pressure off your back, but if you're doing so for more than 30 minutes it probably isn't doing to much for ya. I hope this helps, it's not much. And hope you get a good night soon!

I totally agree, yeah it is 4:22am here in texas and I am finishing homework for my drawing class! ( http://drp.ly/TvYy ) I am in a really hard communication design program at UNT in denton, tx and have found that if I sleep in the afternoon from around 3-9 then I have a lot more time to just get schoolwork done at night. Afternoons were always not very productive for me in the past, so sleeping during that time brings maximum efficiency to my day!

You should try midnite natural sleeping pills. They have no bad side effects, all it does is just relax you and makes it easier to fall asleep. =)

this is my story EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT.

usually reading helps me get to sleep but lately that hasn't been helping. mum gave me a book of crosswords, wordsearches & things like that and that helped me. also, i downloaded a few podcasts of hamish and andy (don't know if you have heard of them because they are from australia... but they are funny people on the radio) and that ALWAYS puts me to sleep.

hope i helped in someway. keep up the good work :)

Consider it as a small tip: if you can't fall asleep, massage the soles of your feet with an ice bag contains ice cubes until you fall asleep . It might not be helpful for everyone. Instead of massaging you can just keep the ice bag attached. Caution! don't catch cold doing it. ( This tip might not be helpful for anyone suffering from insomnia).

Blair! I love your videos and blog!

Try doing some relaxation, meditation or even yoga before you go to bed, and even when you wake in the middle of the night. Also make sure you don't have any caffeine before bed. If you like to have a warm drink before bed, try a herbal decaffeinated tea such as a 'sleepy time tea' OR look into a natural sleeping herb or tablet :) You probably already knew about these tips, but thought I would tell you just in case!

I have recently started a blog, I would be so honored if you popped by it sometime :)

I think it's funny that there are so many comments giving you sleep advice at 4 and 5 in the morning - I know it's probably time zones and circumstances mostly (I'm on my way to work, myself) but it's still funny!

You know how at the end of a yoga class they usually do a guided imagery/meditation and everyone falls asleep even though you're not supposed to? Well youtube is full of those! if you search guided relaxation or hypnosis meditation or any other combo of that kind of thing you'll get loads of stuff - jnspire has tons of them that are especially good because they're designed for helping you sleep. Some times it'll take 2 or 3 of them before I'm really out, but it's always worked for me.

Good luck!

Is the top of your head facing north as you sleep? I read this somewhere and it really improved my insomnia. Also, you can try meditation techniques to help clear your mind and lessen the chance of have your own thinking wake you up in the middle of the night.

When I can't fall asleep I do Sudoku. It knocks me right out, lol. Something about focusing on one thing really helps me relax.

Maybe you should go running or something to get psysically tired? Or do some jumping jacks or something. Maybe that'll tire you enough so you will fall asleep!

Hey Blair,

The best way to make yourself fall asleep is to make yourself physically exhausted. Increase your exercising to more than what you would normally do and completely tire yourself out!
I used to work 12 hour days driving trucks, and I couldn't get to sleep. But I found that if I made an effort at the gym, I'd sleep fine at night :)

Good luck!

My mom's worker uses this trick himself, I personally have never tried it so I don't know but I thought to tell you to see if it might help you. Put vicks vapor rub on your feet then put on a pair of socks. This is supposed to make you fall to sleep more easily.

Hey Blair! I have the same problem.. What I've been trying lately is using my Pandora station that is set with Claude Debussy, and playing that quietly which is super relaxing, along with rainymood.com at the same time. It's nice background noise for me. :) Also, I have some supplements that I take an hour or so before I want to fall asleep (sometimes earlier if I know it's going to be one of those really tough nights), and they work wonderfully! They are called Alteril, and they're all natural if that means anything to you. Hope you get some rest soon honey! And me too, if we're lucky.. <3

Hey blair! I just thought you might want to try going to bed sooner like 8 or 9 and when you close your eye don't try to control what your thinking about, let your brain wander! anyways I had the same problem as this last year and this *really* helped me!

Hey Blair,

You sound just like me when I was your age. I'm not that much older now (only about 2 years) but that pattern's changed. I used to be in IB and work 5 jobs as well as be involved in just about every single organization possible.

The reason you're not able to fall asleep is due to stress. That's what I think. You stay up late because you have so much to do. It's all keeping you alive. I don't have many tricks, but simply relax. In order for me to relax I quit ALL 5 jobs and went to Greece for 3 months. =)

I hope you're okay and glad to see you're at least being productive about it. Because as you've found out, early in the morning really is the best time to do work. And no, I don't think your professors would mind you turning in work so late. And if they mention it, you could always say you were traveling the world. ;)

Stay Beautiful,
Selina Christine

That sounds really sucky. I've always had trouble getting to sleep, my whole life. I've found the best solution for me is to got to sleep with either the TV on, or a YT playlist playing on my laptop. I make sure the TV is set to auto-sleep after about an hour (otherwise its on all night an wasting electricity!), and I set it on a volume just low enough that I'm not straining to hear. I also try to make sure its all stuff I've seen before, so I don't actually start watching it! I've found that this becomes white noise in the background, and kind of drowns out all the mess of thoughts that start rattling around my head the minute I try to go to sleep, and I can drift off quite peacefully.
If the TV wouldn't quite work for you, you could try soft music, or perhaps even a white noise machine (one of those things that plays wave sounds, or whale songs) - there might even be some iPhone apps you could use. Its what works for me anyway - hope you find something soon. I suffer from migraines as well, and they're just awful - plus hardly sleeping just bites in general. Good luck!

I think someone already said this, but I have been a night owl for the past 6 months and I have no idea why. I started taking Melatonin in liquid form about 3 nights ago and the stuff puts me right to sleep. I'm used to falling asleep around 6 or 7 am---no lie! And recently melatonin helps me fall asleep at 11:30 pm. I'm really excited about it bc now I'm waking up at like 7 am! Haha. Melatonin is natural and it's even good for you. It has antioxidants and is great for your immune system. I know the liquid form isn't harsh on your liver either. Give it a try! It has saved my life haha.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I'm a night owl my self and, for me its so normal to get up at 1pm! I'm homeschooled as well, so I get what you mean by your teachers thinking you're insane for submitting your work at 3:00 AM. It's okay though, they'd probably understand. :)

I have a lavender lotion that i put a little dab under my nose and it calms everything in my body and i get sleepy. I also light a lavender candle. if non of those work i take one advil pm liquid pill. usually the lotion works. hope that works for you. <3 Silvia

Melatonin isn't a vitamin at all, it's a type of hormone which your body naturally produces which inhibits wakefulness, therefore inducing sleepiness. It is completely safe to take as it is already naturally in your body

Hey blair, +1 on the working at night, it's what I do. Basiclly I get home from school, sleep than wake up at 1 or 2 am and do my homework then. It's so much more efficient and productive

Molly said...

ok Blair, here's what you do.

get all your pillows and sheets lined up perfectly, just the way you like them so you have no excuse to fiddle with them later on. then, sit up perfectly straight, close your eyes and picture in your mind an image of yourself. any image you can think of. then focus on imagining your picture fade away until only the outline of you is left. then imagine a giant eraser scrubbing away at your outline until you're totally gone. then, think of something REALLY wonderful (I like to image myself inside Sephora with a fully stocked wallet and a list to go by) and slowly slide backwards while focusing on your "wonderful thing" until you're lying down. now DON'T MOVE (this is crucial) and keep focusing on your fantasy. once you've yawned 3 times, you're in the home stretch.

it's always worked for me.

love you, B! -Molly

Whenever I can't sleep it's usually because I have so much on my mind/stressed over how many things I have to do. When that happens I just get a little notepad that I put beside my bed and write a list of things that I will get done tomorrow. For some reason that lets my mind relax and fall right asleep.
Good luck!

Exercise is by the far the best way to maintain your sleep cycle. These other types are helpful, but only mask the problem, since many of these will condition you to feel tired, but when you get to lay down, you're still wide awake.

Try doing some type of cardio, in the early afternoon. That way you will begin to feel tired by the end of the night.

The comment about Melotonin is also correct, but people are known to get addicted to it, if that is the only way they can fall asleep.

And one last weird thing, make sure the only thing you are doing in your bed is sleep(not homework , etc). That way every time you get into bed. your body knows it's time to sleep

haha i submit essays all the time at like 5am when they are due at 10am...who cares when you submit them as long as you're doing good work! hope you start getting more sleep! my whole college career was going to bed at 3 am, waking up at 7 and then taking naps during the day...sometimes i even stayed up the whole night and slept after my classes...oops!

I watch a tv show on my iPod. Sometimes I have to watch 2 or 3 but by the end I am already asleep. Also I have the volume turned down really low. I don't know why but the soft sound is soothing, and you waist energy trying to hear it.

Whenever I get random insomnia bouts, I just get up and do some lab reports (I'm at uni). It's a good way to lulling me to sleep (hell-o, calculations are so boring!) and also getting some much procrastinated work done. After 30 min before finishing, I pop a Nytol tablet (natural herbal stuff to promote sleepiness, like hops) and that usually helps.

Tbh, if you can't sleep, you can't sleep. Not much point in tossing and turning. I get really fed up and frustrated, making it even harder to sleep.

Hope that helps and good luck on your school work! Try not to be so hectic and just let your body have a much needed rest! xoxo

Hey Blair, I have a very uncommon thing I do when to fall asleep. It depends on how active my day is though. But I literally go wear myself out by jogging around my neighborhood, or around my room, until Im too tired to jog anymore. Then, I go to sleep. Now, if you take showers at night, then this wont help you, because you'll be all stinky from the jog. Hope this helped! Bye!!!! :)

I used to use these natural sleeping pills until I ran out of them (I need to go buy some more!) but it's called Natural Factors Stress Relax Tranquil Sleep. They really work to relax you and help you get to sleep faster, and they don't make you super tired the next day! You should try them! :)

Hey girl!! I have a hunch that maybe ur suffering from some sort of anxiety and you dont even realize it. When I was your age (a few years ago) I used to have the same sort of problem every once in awhile and I would have absolutely no idea why I couldn't sleep but after whatever was making me anxious would go away I would suddenly have my sleep back. Maybe the excitment of going to prom is in the back of your head, maybe its from school, maybe its from some project you have coming up?? Sometimes you don't realize how you feel and it comes out in weird ways (like not being able to sleep). I suggest trying to figure out if something is bothering you in the back of your head and talking it out with a friend. hope it helps :P

Hey Blair,
I am so sorry you're still having sleep issues, but turning that time into school time is very productive of you. TWO THUMBS UP!
However sleep is necessary, and as silly as it sounds, I have found that if I make sure I don't have to go to the bathroom, it helps me fall asleep. Also, I watch a movie sometimes to fall asleep too, or I sing to myself in me head. Also, I always make sure I'm somehow touching a blanket. I can't sleep without one.
I hopes this helps!
Love you!

Hey Blair,
A good way to fall alseep is to try to name off 2 men's names for each letter of the alphabet ie: Adam, Andrew, Brent, Bob, Collin, Cale, etc. I generally find it harder with men's names but you can also try female names or try naming off 3 or 4 names for each letter. I swear its exhausting lying in bed thinking about it. Good luck! I hope it helps,

I usually do sudoku or crossword puzzles. they make me pretty sleep. I'd be careful with sleeping pills. They'll help you sleep but once you stop taking them the insomnia will be worse than before because your body adjusted to the drugs. I hear exercising a few hours before you sleep will help too.

Anonymous said...

I don't know if anyone has said this, or if it will work for you but it has almost always worked for me (I used to have REALLY bad insomnia). You lie flat on your back and slowly, starting with your toes, start to relax every muscle in your body. Doing it super slowly would take like 5 or 10 minutes, but the act of doing it somehow convinces your brain that it's powering down and you are usually asleep before you even get to the top of your head. :) I don't know if it will help you but it almost always works for me.

have you ever tried listening to a lecture or an audio book using iPod or mp3 while trying to sleep? it helps me fall asleep within 40 min for most of the time. i think this is similar to the night-time-story thing that we have when we were small.

what I do is I don't open my eyes at all, no matter how hard it is i keep my eyes closed because whenever I open them I get non tired again, also I begin trying to fall asleep around 30 minutes before my Bedtime, if you usually go to bed at 10, start trying to go to bed at 9:15 or 9:30! Hope this helped!

Hey Blair! I have had a similar thing happen to me where I would stay up forever, and it was really frustrating. That's good that you can see the positive side of it and get some school work done. I finally rid of this by realizing that I was drinking diet coke all day and the caffeine was keeping me up! Then I stopped drinking it after about 5pm and then I could sleep again. You should consider if you're taking in a lot of caffeine or something. I never even realized it until my Mom mentioned it to me. :)

Hi Blair,

I have never left a comment but since sleep is so important I thought I would give you some advice! My younger brother has always had sleeping/insomnia problems and recently that turned into terrible night terrors where he was too afraid to sleep, and never slept well.

We have been giving him a combination of valerian root (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valerian_%28herb%29) Google it, it is GREAT for sleeping; and chamomile tea.

For the first time in his 16 years of life he has slept through the night without waking up and feels great. Seriously. Try this and you'll sleep like a baby :D

I saw someone else mention melatonin, and I have to agree. I swear by it. It's all natural and isn't addictive or anything like sleeping pills. it's actually one of your body's natural hormones that regulate sleep patterns..and certain times in your life you don't make enough of it naturally so that's why they make it as a supplement to take.

You can find it in places like Whole Foods but even most small health food stores or vitamin stores would have it. My doctor told me the most effective kind is the sublingual tablets(which means the type that you put under your tongue and let dissolve). Just put it under there and keep moving it from one side to another as it dissolves for best results. For some reason I heard this makes it absorb better than leaving it in one place.

Also, like the other commenter mentioned you should take it half hour to an hour before you want to be asleep and just do "quiet" sort of activities while you are having it dissolve like reading in bed or something. No tv or bright lights as this will work against your brain getting sleepy. Hope this helps!

Anonymous said...

Here's what my sister does, and it helps me too. And well her also. Anyways. Put together a "sleepy time playlist" on your ipod of calm soothing songs. ex.

Really hope this helps!

I have troubles falling asleep,so I'd be the perfect example to tell you what to do. But the reality is I've tried everything aswell and nothing works for me. I've just kinda goten used to it.
Sometimes getting up and walking around and having a glass of water helps.
Definitely turn off everything that has lights: tv, lamps, etc. That turned my 2 hours to fall asleep into 1.
I heard Lavender is good too. That's my next try. Getting a Lavender scented candle.
Let me know if you found any "miracle" :P

sometimes when I am excited for the next day I can't sleep so I try and think about how tired I will be and force my eyelids closed and listen to very quiet, and soft music. A really good thing is lying down, if you don't lie down you can never sleep because when you lie down the human body immediately goes into "rest mode" and then sleeps. What I usually do is clear my head. Just forget everything and relax, think of a blank wall or the sky. It really helps. Also, you might want to go crazy with exercise so your body is SUPER tired and you fall asleep. If you really can't, get some sleeping pills over the counter, or from your doctor! Its not healthy, so be careful blair! <3

I too stay up late quite often and was pretty upset a few weeks ago. my teacher said it was due before friday. so i went into class on friday and he said "well it looks like some people are lying about the day they're posting their responses." i asked how, and he said "well its funny you should ask. You said yours was posted yesterday while it was really uploaded today." i guess computers cant tell that three in the morning is supposed to count as the day before.

hey blair(:
if you keep thinking you'll never be able to fall asleep, you won't. you need to preoccupy yourself if you can't fall asleep. reading always works for me, always. but i guess not for you. your jinxing it. it's like when you tell yourself your going to win the card game, but you jinxed it. so you'll lose. kinda like that. hope this helps (:

I always play a game of sodoku on my phone while laying in bed. its like my last few minutes of fun, and i think it helps me compute numbers a little better. i time myself. i can now solve them in under 10 minutes always. which is good for me :)

Something you could try, that I do, is I have a playlist on my iPod with a bunch of songs that help me fall asleep (: The ones that help the most are The Best Day by Taylor Swift, and Valentine by Kina Grannis... Good luck (: Love your vids!

there is a herbal tablet called Valarian. I have had a lot of success with this. There are other things called sleepeez or any herbal mix that contains valarian designed to help you sleep. There are some that other people have mentioned that would be just as good. Just a side note though they are herbal medication so they may not work immediantly it may take you a couple of days for it to completely work. Also take it a couple of hours before you actually are wanting to sleep because herbal medication can work different on different people. Some people it will take longer to take effect then others. I really hope that makes sense I am not sure whether it does.

I love both you and your sisters videos and i LOVE glitzy-glam!!!

I dont know if this is an "uncommon" way, but i like to count backwards from 1000 in my mind with my eyes closed. On days like the ones you're going through now, i fall asleep by around 600. It also helps if you picturise the numbers as you count them =) good luck =)

hey blair you didn't mention lavendar so ill just mention it incase. just few drops of lavendar oil on your pillow normally does it. and soemthing i had to do to get into a normal sleeping pattern for school is i had to stay up for a whole night and then my mum tok me to the shops so i couldnt fall asleep then go home when they close and have dinner and go to bed and i passed out.

Turn you bedroom in to just that. Don't watch TV, don't do any other activity besides sleeping. Too many other things going on and your brain might not shut down enough for sleep.
Or try some Valerian root pills or L-Tryptophan pills. Tryptophan is what makes people sleepy after Thanksgiving dinner (or any big meal). Both pills promote relaxation and sleepiness, and they're considered "homeopathic" so they work with your body and no possibility of addiction. Good luck, and don't stress.

I hope it works for you! I've been blessed with pretty nice skin, but stick to my routine to maintain it. I use cetaphil gentle skin cleanser every morning and night, and aveeno positively radiant daily moisturizer with spf after I wash my face. :)

Try reading a book, but not just any book. A really boring book. Like a really dry, uninteresting economics textbook or something. Otherwise, there are always breathing and meditation exercises to try.

Thanks. :)

hey, i love your blog. i recently mentioned you and your sister on my blog. check it out: http://acaliforniadreamer.blogspot.com/

I just wanted to say that I think you and your sister are awesome and that I think you guys are very enterprising young women. You have created such a successful business with so many followers its crazy. Congrats on your creativity, talents, and success!

Oh and about the night owl issue. I've always been one. I find that I get a lot of stuff accomplished when it's dead silent in my house and neighborhood. But I know that it sucks some nights when you just can't fall asleep. I think one of the causes could be going to bed right after watching TV or being on the computer. Something about the radiation and airwaves that messes with your brain and makes it like not calm down or something. So try reading a book or magazine before bed. Hopefully that'll help!

Hope you can go on more LA visits.
Take care,

Deanna

So I know this comment is late, but doing homework or reading my textbook always makes me sleepy. If I'm wide awake I just decide to do some work and within an hour or two- bingo! I'm worn out and ready to curl up under my pink silk sheets.

Of course, you practically work all the time- so maybe this won't work out so fab for you.

I find that turning off all electronics about a half hour before I go to bed really helps me. For some reason a computer screen is much worse than a book or something like that. I also find that exercising right before bed helps spend my energy before going to sleep. I like yoga, Tara Stiles has some amazing tutorials at her YouTube channel, tarastilesyoga. I like to do one of her weight loss routines and the one called "morning stretch." Seems contradictory, but it's so relaxing!

Anyway, that's it. I figured I'd let you know in case I could help you, I know how annoying it is to not be able to sleep!

Oh, and I like to do another kind of weird thing. I just lay there, on my back, with my eyes closed. Then I concentrate completely on clenching the legs in my calves, and then I relax them and keep my calves completely relaxed. I do this with my thighs, booty, stomach, fists, arms, shoulders/neck, and face. I know it seems weird, but it works! And don't think about ANYthing else while you're doing it.

Hi Blair!
I have a huge problem on school nights, because i'll be so tired during the day and then i'll lay in bed and end up watching T.V. or listening to music until 11:30! I've always been like this and I've never been able to change lol

I watch your youtube videos and follow you on twitter and i have resently stummbled across your blog. anyways I've heard about your sleeping problems here are some tips that i think will help. im a total night owl just like you however i don't have a problem with it you do so here is what will help me fall asleep on those nights that seem impossably long and restless.
tip #1: sometimes if i just close my eyes and think about the coming day i will unoticeably transition into unconcousness.
tip #2: some videos on youtube are made to help you fall asleep you should check them out.
tip #3:don't exercise before going to bed. wind down not up.
tip#4: make sure all electronic devices are OFF!one of my major problems is im on my computer to the late hours of the night and thats ok with me when im not trying to fall asleep but when i am it really distracts me. so your computer tv everything turn it off.
those our some tips i hope will help. i love you so much blair. and i know everyone tells you that but i really do and i think people are really hard on you and i know you take so much time out of your everyday life to do everything you do for us such as making youtube videos. you are truely an inspiration to me. and i never listen to any of the rumors that go on about you because i know you would never lie to sweetest and dearest fans. Im going to stop this comment right know because i have pratically written a blog iself. love you blair. bye bye and goodluck with your sleeping problem and maybe your just really stressed out:) bye

OMG! That's so weird that you get migraines when you don't sleep enough, that's happened to me since I was 4 yrs old! And, of course, lucky me, I'm a night owl (always have been). So I frequently get really bad ones (as in: throwing up, head throbbing, writhing in my bed, you get the picture). This is kinda pointless. Oh well! See ya! Hope sleep gets better!

i usually read a book, but if i STILL can't fall asleep (i have troubles with falling asleep, too), i usually think of what i did that day and what i will do the next day. Sometimes i think of what i will wear. Eventually i get so bored with myself that i start to get really sleepy and fall asleep. Also, try counting backwards for a looong time (as in 200, 199, 198, 197).
Hope this helped!! <3<3

Well, I usually listen to some really relaxing music before sleep. Honestly, I can't fall asleep with out it...

I'm having the same problem! I wont get tired until about 4 AM and i wake up at like 11. if i'm lucky 12:30. i mean, 6 or 7 hours is enough sleep but still, i hate being up all night. no matter how tired i am i can't fall asleep till 4. it's awful.

Laura said...

How did you get that background??

Emma said...

Well, first of all, don't watch tv or use the computer or anything like that when you're trying to fall asleep. I read in a magazine that your brain mistakes this artificial light as sunlight, and then it makes you stay awake longer.
Also, when I can't fall asleep, I eat a carb like pretzels (they're supposed to take longer to digest or something, which helps you fall asleep), and then drink a big glass of water, of course, to keep yourself hydrated! Anyway, these tips work for me, and I hope they help you! Good luck!
**Oh, and don't listen to the people telling you to EXERCISE before you go to sleep, you're not supposed to exercise within 5 or 6 hours of going to sleep--it gets your adrenaline up! That makes it HARDER to fall asleep!

hey.. i had insomnia for like 6 months and I know how bad it can get... i don't know if this may help or not, but there are some relaxation exercises... like, visualizing something that is pretty to you :) daydreaming while trying to fall asleep :) or maybe audiobooks will help, listening to stories with your eyes closed, it gets me asleep every time:) although sometimes it takes me more time to fall asleep.. but try to think if this sleep problem isn't because of something that's changed in your life... maybe lately was kind of hectic, or maybe something happened to you and you didn't give it too much thought... i don't want to be rude, I'm just trying to help, cause insomnia is a pain in the back :) so.... hope this is helpful... :) take care

Hey Blair! I love you videos, especially the throughout the years and the fashion ones! I think it would be awesome if you started talking about guys too though!
The sleeping thing stinks, me and my sister have always had issues, but our parents are out like lightbulbs, I usually read by a less bright light wearing out my eyes, or try to concentrate on things with out my glasses or contacts (I don't think that is bad for your eyes because mine seem to be getting better, but don't hurt your eyesight) the lavender thing works! I have a sleeping mask similar to a bean bag so it weighs down my eyes and then in between the rice or whatever is in there, is crushed up lavender, it closed my eyes because it was so drowsy-making (is that a word?) but it also helped me relax. I also have to put something over all my electronics because the light drives me nuts. I usually use like a stuffed animal or something. Also it prevents me from looking at the clock. Haha. Hope this pointless rant helped a little bit! Keep making movies! I look on both your channels and your blog every day!!! Thx Blair!

I actually envy you right now. Seems that lately I'm tired .. all of the time. 24/7 no matter how much sleep I get and being a student I don't get that much.

You should try Kalms tablets, there not sleeping tablets they just de stress you so that you can fall assleep on your own I take them when I need a night when I'm not constantly up and down thinking of things I need to do.

You could always try a hops pillow. You can buy them or make them yourself. James Wong has a great recipe neal's Yeard Remedies sell them and they also sell some really great sleep products, including a sleep kit. You should give it a try its http://www.nealsyardremedies.com/sleep-kit
